Visit The Square

​Harriet Tubman Square, formerly Washington Park, is a historic green space in downtown Newark, New Jersey. Renamed on Juneteenth 2022, it honors the famed abolitionist and Newark’s role in the Underground Railroad. The square features “Shadow of a Face,” a 25-foot tall monument by Nina Cooke John, with community-made tiles and audio narrated by Queen Latifah. Surrounded by landmarks like the Newark Museum of Art and Newark Public Library, it serves as a cultural and civic hub.
